Irregular verbs

This page has a list of common English irregular verbs and their forms.

English learners may find it helpful to learn the irregular verbs and their forms by heart. Saying them aloud is a good way to do this.

Note that the first form is called the infinitive. The second form is the past simple. And the third form is the past participle. The present participle (-ing form) is not shown here, but it is the same for all verbs. For example: be → being, sit → sitting, etc.

The four verb forms are used in all of the numerous verb constructions in English. There is more information on the tense selector page.

There are several interactive quizzes on irregular verb forms in the Verb grammar: Miscellaneous drop-down menu on the Grammar index.
