Syntax

This page has links to other pages on the site where you can find information about word order grammar, also known as syntax.

Syntax is the term for the order in which sentences are constructed out words, phrases and clauses.

On the word order page you will find a brief overview of the typical SVO (subject, verb, object) English syntax and other common patterns.

There is also an entry on syntax in the metalanguage glossary.

In the Learners section there is a detailed explanation of the various clause types, together with advice on constructing good sentences.
